Tappex® offers solutions with its threaded fasteners to meet the rigorous requirements encountered in mechanically assembling various materials or combinations thereof, including glass-reinforced plastics (GRP), composite materials, or combinations of metal alloys, thermoset plastics, structural foams, wood laminates, and paper-based sandwich constructions. OEMs and their supply chains are increasingly specifying additional materials such as carbon fiber and Kevlar reinforcements for use in extremely lightweight yet mechanically rigid structures. Tappex remains committed to addressing these evolving application challenges for OEM and other critical industrial uses.

Tappex threaded inserts for woods and composites primarily fall into three main categories:

Self-threading brass Foamserts
Plated, stainless steel, or titanium Trisert-3 inserts
Case-hardened screws and special rivet nuts (featuring a patented bulge control feature)

Design guidance is available for all cases.
In the future, Tappex will introduce new fastening solutions in response to the emerging field of ‘lightweight materials’ in structural applications.

Trisert-3®

Self-Tapping Plated Steel, Stainless Steel or Titanium Insert. The Tappex Trisert-3 has three cutting features to provide a balanced cutting action and reduced installation torque. It is suited for critical applications in hard plastics & light metal alloys and is available in two lengths, regular and long, and is based upon the Trisert Reduced Headed design.

Foamsert®

Self tapping Brass Insert for use in Wood & lower density materials The Tappex Foamsert® is a special version of the Trisert® and has a very coarse truncated external thread form. The Foamsert® threaded insert ideally suited for use in structural foam materials, laminated chipboards, medium density fibre board and certain types of glass reinforced plastics (GRP).

Rivet Nuts

Suitable for use in Plastics and Composite materials The MultiRiv® / rivet nut is designed with four holes to control the deformation of the body. This property enables the use of Rivet Nuts in applications and materials where they would otherwise not be suitable. They are available in a range of materials, grip ranges and in headed and reduced...
